Hibernatus
As I try to come out of several months of hibernation, I found out that I had become a level 2 Joe Users during my time out there. The least I can say is that it is quiet a surprise. May be the best way to become a power user is to blog elsewhere...
Prelude
If you have read my previous articles about JU (Points systems, blogging and ants... and Points systems, blogging and ants...(2)) you probably know that I have tried to understand and explain the way the bloggers interact here. If you haven't, I would suggest you give them a go as several people found them interesting or helpful about the issue of points and ranking system here. In addition to advert for my archives article, I would use them to support some conclusions about being a power/elite users compared to normal citizenship.
And?
Keeping the ants analogy in mind, power users can be seen as bigger ants leaving more pheromone than normal (due to their size) and thus are more active to guide other ants to food supply. I guess there are 20 something power users around, a handful of elite and 3-4 administrators (extremely big ant!). When Stardock grant you a power user status, it means that they have assess your skill to guide the other ants to find better blogs and they have reckon that you are a little bit better for that. (Before you question or discuss the past statement, I really insist you reading the two previous article, it will save everybody sometime...). Their criteria for becoming one are not very clear and I doubt the management team will ever come cleaner than that about who and why they pick one.
With great power came great responsibility?
Now that I'm one, I'm wondering if there is any particular behavior that would be appropriate. The thing is that being a power user give only a little bit more capacity to distinguish good from bad JU blogs. And I'm spending more time on my French blog anyway.
But I have some connection with this place, I guess that a good compromise would be first to try to regularly write decent posts here, and secondly, I will try to investigate and review some new blogs to highlight some great stuff that would have remained unknown because heavy weight are taking most of the light. Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical about the efficiency of this approach as my blog is not read any longer but I'll try anyway. There are some pretty good posts around here and then, and it is a shame that they fade away because more popular and often lower quality threads get a lot of support.
Disclaimer
I hope this won't being taken in a pretentious or arrogant way, because I'm sincere about that. So please, keep any French bashing for upgrading your own post. Thanks.
