Moving in

Moving in

For 2 weeks I have been living in my new house, actually since I came back from Christmas holiday. Again my friends E. and Y., who kept all my stuff at their house, helped me to move in. My new room is almost the half of my previous accommodation, but the whole house is in much better state: it is warm (actually hot compared to what I’ve been living in), my housemate are young and speak English (previously I was sharing with one Greek… and two Czechs one of them was 65). These details could be considered as trivial, the more important is that the landlord isn’t there.

Whatever flaws my new house can have, I know that I’m right to have move. The last day I have received a note from the main office of my department saying that J. wanted me to call him back. J. was one of the Czech living at B.’s house, he was a nice and easy housemate but we had never socialised more than that. I called him and was quiet surprised:.

“Hi J. What’s up ?”

“I’m all right, but I need you to do me a favour.”

“OK go on”

“I have been throw out of the house and I would need you to accommodate me”

“What’s happened with B.

“He sacked me.”

“Why ?”

“I have been in Scotland for a few day and I have borrow a mattress from the house. I tried to asked B., but I couldn’t get him on his mobile so I took the mattress. On my way back to Leicester, I received a phone call from B. telling me that I had robbed him and that he will call the police. I explained him that I was already on the way back, with the mattress and that I wasn’t a robber.”

“What did he say?”

“He didn’t want me to comeback in the house, saying that I robbed the mattress and some lamps. I had never taken any lamps from him. I have still some stuffs there and I can’t even see my step-father (the other Czech). He doesn’t want me to go inside.”

I told him that my room was small and that I had just moved in without really knowing my housemates. It was really difficult for me to help him. The discussion ended and I went straight away to talk with E. and Y., their first reactions was to ask if B. was under drugs. I felt really happy not being in the house anymore. He knew B. for more than a year, his step father was still living there and he needed to be accommodate in Leicester. Stealing something from your house, especially when you are connected to by your family seems to me absurd. Anyways, this is no more my problem.

My new housemates are English, and I wanted to cook them a French meal, expecting that they might not enjoy it. Few young English have enough food experience to enjoy strong taste such as good cheese, sausages.. Anyway I had brought some Reblochon cheese from my Christmas holiday in order to cook a tartiflette. (I will post the recipe later). After a little aperitif of Martini with toast of smoked cod liver, we had dinner.  We finished the meal by some chocolate truffes. I was surprised but very happy that they enjoyed it.
