Few tips for avoiding heartburns
Two years ago, I have been diagnosed with oesophagitis,
(it means an inflammation of the oesophagus) due to excess acid reflux. I
have been treated with medicine but had found that a couple of trick can really
help.
The main principle is to understand how your stomach
work. It is a bag and muscle able to ground its content. The heartburn came from
the food being digested to go up through oesophagus. (I don't know if there is a
sickness associated for the other way...) Logically, if you don't want the
content to be sent from the stomach, you need a sealed stomach. That my
problem.
- Don't eat and drink at the same time. It seems very
bizarre at the beginning but this is important as the content of the stomach
will be less liquid and so less likely to splash the oesophagus. Drink 30
minutes before eating and wait at least 2 hours before drinking again. A
small amount of water for cleaning your throat is manageable.
- Don't sleep horizontal anymore, try to put your bed
with a small angle or use pillow. It will reduce the amount of acid going up
using the gravity. Don't go to bed for 3 hours after eating.
- Lose weight. You will diminish the pressure on your
stomach.
- Eat less. You will reduce the amount of food to be
ground and decrease the risk of splashing
- Try to avoid the hunger. Being hungry mean a lot of
thing for your body, including saliva production and acid production. The
only way for that is to eat less and differently. Avoid sweet and
carbohydrate, you will diminish the hunger that came 2 hours afterwards when
you body feel the sugar level going down.
- Avoid cigarette and coffee.
- Avoid stress environment
